Fiesta de la Virgen del Carmen

Crowded streets pulse with the infectious rhythm of folkloric dances during Peru's lively festival. Elaborately costumed masked figures, featuring hand-embroidered patterns and depictions of nature and religious icons, fill the vibrant celebration.

Nineteen dance groups, adorned with beautiful, comical, and frightening masks, grace the festivities with their presence. Each group skillfully represents or humorously parodies a colonial character, with the Qapaq Qoyas, highland merchants; Qapaq Chunchos, Antisuyo warriors; and Qapaq Negros, devoted slaves brought to mine, commanding the center stage of this dynamic cultural event.
